Introducing: San Zhi

San ZhiSan Zhi come on like Jesus and the Mary Chain overdosing on cotton candy and fuzzy lights, before tipping gracefully into a vat of lemonade spritzer. Perhaps too sweet for some, tracks from last year’s Ice Light EP, like the eponymous opener and “The Ex Factor” nevertheless make an impression worthy of further exploration.

The band are led by Suraya and her partner in crime Peter Howarth-Brown. Billed as an act from Egypt vs. Bournemouth via Taiwan, there’s little in the way of continental influence here – instead the duo incorporate 90s r’n’b, pop and more pop to create something critics will surely compare to  AlunaGeorge and Polica et al.

San Zhi will tour the South of England next month, playing the following dates:

8th May - The Hope // Brighton9th May - sixy million postcards // Bournemouth10th May - Southampton TBC 11th May - The Oakford Social // Reading
