Surfer Blood announce new album 1000 Palms

1000 PalmsSurfer Blood have shared their newly premiered track “Dorian”, taken from their recently announced new album 1000 Palms, their first album with their new indie label Fierce Panda. After dropping on Huw Stephens Radio 1 show last week “Dorian” is now streaming on the bands Soundcloud, with an official release penned for 11th May later this year.

A DIY mish-mash of eclectic tastes “this song has everything from classic 80's synth patches to fucked-up vocoder sound collages,” explains frontman John Paul Pitts, “embracing a series of left-turns that make it one of the most unique songs in our catalogue.” He’s not lying about its rather bespoke qualities as the ending of “Dorian” winds up miles away from where we started, an incredibly long journey considering it all took just four minutes.

After a less than enamouring experience with Warner Bros. Surfer Blood found themselves confined to a rented practice space in Portland, Oregon pooling together demos that would later become the track on 1000 Palms. Removing the corporate middleman and being responsible for everything didn’t faze the band one bit though, “fortunately none of us are strangers to DIY recording, so this seemed like the kind of challenge well-suited to our band,” says Pitts.

After joining forces with Fierce Panda 1000 Palms became a reality, one which will see the album released 12th May, the day after “Dorian”, which you can listen to now.
