Stream: Big Thief bare their teeth on “Shark Smile”

Shark SmileBrooklyn raconteurs Big Thief have released another single, "Shark Smile", from their much anticipated second album, Capacity, out 9th June 2017 via Saddle Creek.

It's the classic love story – albeit one that begs to transcend death following a fatal car accident. Yet despite this tragic content (or perhaps because of it), the single is an outstanding piece of beautiful deep-south styled country meets indie rock with singer-songwriter Adrianne Lenker’s voice as thick and smudgy as tear-stained mascara.  The guitar seems to strain at the edges of Lenkar’s prose, biting at the rawness that has become part of the Big Thief narrative tradition.

“Shark Smile” is yet another meandering on an album that trails us through the depth of human emotion with shades of both sadness and joy casting shadows on the tortured traveller.  Alongside the release of Capacity, Big Thief will embark on a European tour in August 2017 with a few UK dates so you can get a slice of this uniquely ecstatic melancholia for yourself.
