News: Saffron Records announce new skills development programme and access opportunities

Saffron RecordsThe first all-female youth record label, Saffron Records is a music education platform for young women aged 14 – 25. The label was set up in Bristol as a social enterprise in response to the gender gap in the music industry. The PRS (Performers Rights Society) who collect royalties for songwriters and composers in the UK, reports that only 16% of its members are female. To try and improve the situation Saffron Records provide skills development and access to industry, while fostering a supportive community of female creativity and self belief.

Now they have announced details of more programmes to further extend their work. Their Skills Development Programme equips young women for careers as artists, or within artist management. They include tech based programme Saffron for Schools for girls, and Digital Master Classes for young women. Their Access Opportunities include Apprenticeships for school leavers, and Artist Development for their signed artists. Saffron Records aims to build empowering and supportive networks, allowing women to develop successful musical careers with integrity and freedom of creativity.

According to Owen Parry of Bristol Plays Music: "Saffron have identified a genuine need to curate meaningful support for young women in specific areas of music, to help develop a more gender balanced music industry for the future. The growing community of positive response is testament to the vibe they’ve created and displays the huge amount of interest in the initiative out there".
