Video: Okkervil River take on “The Industry”

IndustryAlt country band Okkervil River take aim at the music industry in their new song, "The Industry".

Okkervil's Will Sheff states: "I wrote "The Industry" quickly after getting some bad news," and the song caustically surveys a music business that Sheff felt he no longer recognised. Likewise, in the video directed by Christopher Good (Kevin Morby, Margaret Glaspy), Sheff inhabits an astronaut struggling to understand the world to which he has returned.

"The Industry" is taken from the band's upcoming album Away. The album has already received praise from New York Times, Pitchfork, and NPR Music. It represents a turning point for Sheff, who wrote the album at a time of loss in his life.

Sheff worked with an almost entirely new cast of musicians for this album, most of them coming from the jazz and avant-garde world, including members of yMusic, keyboardists Jared Samuel (Yoko Ono) and Brian Donohoe (Snarky Puppy), and arranger Nathan Thatcher (Nico Muhly, Kronos Quartet), among others. "This record was me taking my life back to zero and starting to add it all back up again, one plus one plus one," says Sheff.

Away is out out 9th September 2016 on ATO Records. See tour dates below.

November - 10th @ Islington Assembly Hall, London // 11th @ Thekla, Bristol // 12th @ Gorilla, Manchester // 13th @ Stereo, Glasgow
