Formed in late 2014, it's taken three years for this hard working band to enter the public's domain, but now they've achieved their goal, there's no sign of them letting up. Fronted by the enigmatic Theresa 'Yonaka' Jarvis - who explained in a 2016 interview with Wow24 that her middle name means ‘the dead of night’, or ‘midnight’ in Japanese - the band also comprises George Edwards on guitar, Alex Crosby on bass, and Robert Mason on drums: a distinctly English-sounding group of fellows who blow the roof off the competition by way of hammering alt-rock riffs. For her part, Jarvis has a killer-cat vocal that would rival Hannah Clark in her FOE days, contributing to an extraordinary delicious racket.
Yonaka's most recent release, "Drongo", comes hot on the heels of breakthrough hit "Ignorance" and news that the band will play Truck Festival this summer alongside headliners The Libertines and Franz Ferdinand. Not that they're another throwback to the 00s: this is 2017, ringing loud and clear.
