Introducing: whenyoung

whenyoungHave you ever listened to a song and loved it, then found out what the lyrics are about and had to suffer a bit from a nasty bout of introspection? Guilty of inspiring such a damning process are Irish trio whenyoung, who will lure you in with their catchy brand of indie rock in the form of new single “Actor”, get you singing its chorus and then splinter your brain with a bit of self-realisation.

Commenting on the track, the group describe it as being about “contorting your character to fit into a disfigured view of the perfect self in order to belong. It's about acting every day and projecting artificial images of yourself through social media and in real life interactions with others.” Damn. Speaking as someone who, prior to listening to the song, had just spent a solid half hour scrolling through Instagram and then Facebook without a break, it’s certainly a worryingly recognisable concept.

whenyoung are Aoife Power (vocals/bass), Niall Burns (guitar) and Andrew Flood (drums); a Limerick-born and now London-based group who are all about making indie rock to stick in your head like a bad idea. By creating music with a sense of imminence about it, driven by authoritative vocals and rumbling rhythms, the band are setting themselves up well for live performance magic.
