Introducing: Thyla

ThylaFull of jangling guitar and soaring female vocals, Thyla is the latest act out of Brighton to be gaining national attention.

2017 is set to be a busy year for the quartet, with a headline show at The Shacklewell Arms and a slot at the Alternative Escape the start of what promises to be a hectic few months on the road.

Over a year on since their last offering, the surfacing of latest single “Ferris Wheel” also marks a clear evolution in their sound. The darker, heavier instrumentation of earlier tracks “Motherlode” and “Car Crash” has been superseded by a more mainstream, polished sound that truly makes the most of Millie Duthie crystalline vocals and should do wonders for increasing their appeal across a wider audience.

Comprising singer and guitarist Duthie, Dan Hole on bass, drummer Danny Southwell and recent addition Mitch Duce on lead guitar, the foursome is clearly throwing everything behind their new sound, which echoes the likes of Blondie and My Bloody Valentine.

Having initially formed as a trio in 2015 and spent the intervening years searching for a sound they were comfortable with, Thyla may finally be starting to make the breakthrough that’s been promised for a long time.

With Macks Faulkron acting as producer, the early signs from “Ferris Wheel” are definitely encouraging, and more fresh material is eagerly awaited.
