Your average British Jo(anna) probably associates philadelphia with cottage cheese, especially when the word is paired with cranberries. But readers of DrunkenWerewolf should know Philadelphia band The Cranberry Isles contest their food stuff counterparts: after all their music is far more fulfilling.
Starring Sean Bramley (guitar, vocals), Ryan Beacher (bass) and Andrew Gunderlock (drums) and sounding unnervingly like early Bright Eyes paired with Okkervil River at whisky o’clock, the band couldn’t be from anywhere other than the land of cheesesteak. Likewise I’d be surprised to see them play outside a dive bar peppered with musos and Radar journalists.
With only a modest fanbase backing their home turf it’s unlikely they’ll make it to the UK this side of Christmas, but if we all kick up enough fuss and download their latest Mackarel Scales and Mare's Tails EP, we could ship them over in time for next year’s Great Escape. Here’s to hoping.
