North East trio Lisbon have packed a lot into their four years together. Since forming at sixth form in 2013, the Whitley natives have shrunk from a quartet into a trio, and are about to launch their music career proper.
Featuring Matty Varty on vocals, Joe Atkinson on guitar, and drummer Alex Wright, these school friends show the sort of musicality and tightness you’d expect from guys who’ve racked up countless hours together perfecting their craft.
Latest single "Tyler" sees the band make a remarkably smooth transition to electro-pop grooves after the indie rock influences of early releases "Shark" and "Vice".
With 6 singles and an acclaimed EP to their name already, this change of sound could see Lisbon take their progression a step further this year. Unapologetically contemporary, the band draws on Fight Club as the inspiration behind their latest offering, with sharp social commentary underpinned by a platform of solid hip hop grooves.
Another band that is reaping the benefits of relentless touring, Lisbon has also supported the likes of Little Comets and Eliza and the Bear as well as two mammoth UK headline tours in 2016.
The trio is back on the road this month for an 8-date tour taking in Brighton, London and Sheffield before they prepare for the festival season with a set already confirmed at Hit the North in Newcastle.
Now Lisbon seems to have settled on a sound that works for them, expect to hear even more from this Whitley Bay trio throughout 2017.
