Introducing: Jones

JonesCherie Jones, also known as Jones, is a London-based singer songwriter you need to become acquainted with. Her original brand of soul pop has already caught Sam Smith’s attention and the young artist played an impressive slot on Jools Holland's BBC One show recently. There is no question about it: Jones is a rising British pop star.

Growing up, Cherie listened to the likes of Stevie Wonder and Luther Vandross. That, combined with her love for the likes of Lykke Li, Tame Impala and Little Dragon, goes far to explain her sound. It's conventional soul pop with a cinematic edge; partnered alongside a warm, smooth-as-honey vocal, the artist is onto winning formula.

Tracks such as “Hoops” give us emotionally charged electro soul with a clear left-field indie influence; cementing how well she incorporates so many influences into her music. The song “Melt” is upbeat and r'n'b, bringing positive lyrics that have a romantic temperament. Another highlight, Jones' acoustic rendition of Calvin Harris' pop anthem "How Deep is Your Love" is slick and shows that she can successfully lead with her voice alone while still inserting some individuality into the biggest pop numbers out there.

Jones' new single is a remastered version of one of her first tracks, “Indulge”. The slow, sultry number is about infatuation with someone. It strikes the right balance of catchy and love struck and emotional. Taken from her debut album - New Skin, out next month - the full length promises to be an exciting listen. The songs that have been released show a mature, nuanced sound that some artists spend a lifetime trying to get.

Catch Jones on tour throughout the UK in October. New Skin is out 7th October 2016 via 37 Adventures.
