Introducing: Gonzalla

GonzallaWith summer having definitely arrived, so begins the annual search for that definitive summer anthem. Los Angeles-based musician Cody Randall, under the guise of Gonzalla, has potentially delivered that tune with new release “T.M.V.”

Coming as close as possible to splicing together The Beach Boys and Ben Howard into one package, Gonzalla’s music makes you wistful for sunny days and sunny skies.

Having spent the last three years in both London and Liverpool, the British folk influences of Rhodes, Bombay Bicycle Club and Dan Croll are clear, while those searching, melancholic vocals married to ear-worm hooks and irrepressible synth beats.

With more than two years of songs out there, from the stripped back harmonies and shared heartbreak of “Never Gonna Go” to the more forceful, forthright rhythm of “Come On Hun,” Gonzalla displays the sort of range that is rumoured to earn him topline writing and performing credits on Kanye West’s forthcoming album.

Off the back of a star turn at SXSW festival, the time seems right for Gonzalla to start gaining some more appreciation this side of the pond. A few more head-turning tracks and eye-catching live shows and this could be Gonzalla’s year.
