Introducing: Drahla

DrahlaAs if starting a successful touring band was not hard enough, let's all spare a thought for the DIY acts that are doing almost everything for themselves. I, for one, can barely plan what I'm having for dinner, let alone manage my own label, release an EP, and prepare for a month-long tour. For Leeds trio Drahla this seems to be as natural as it comes.

The DIY band’s autumn of touring has already begun. Kicking off with a headline slot at London’s Shacklewell Arms, they now find themselves in support of Canadian rockers METZ on their tour around Europe. The last stop sees them play at Salford’s White Hotel, with fellow Leeds act Autobahn.

Compromising Luciel Brown, Rob Riggs and Mikey Ainsley, Drahla released their debut EP, Third Article, on 24th November. Produced by Hookworms’ MJ, Third Article seems to pull Drahla out of the waves of distortion and fuzz into a well-defined shoe-gaze act. Teaser track "Silk Spirit" shows the bands jump from garage band to touring act. The tune compromises of a fuzzy bass and a driving drum glossed over with some heavy guitar and strong vocals from Luciel. Comparing it to earlier releases Faux Text and Fictional Decisions reveals the bands step in the right directions to a more relatable sound.

The minimalist but punchy nature of Drahla makes them a formidable act. And after recently sharing stages with The Cribs and Parquet Courts it's clear to see that the European support tour is only the beginning for the trio.
