Introducing: DENA

DENAIf you don’t remember DENA from her 2012 hit, “Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pools”, then it’s time to get to know her. She splashed onto the scene with the satirical track racking up over a million views and getting media coverage from just about every music publication worth its salt, dying to get to know the new hip pop star on the block. Her debut album, Flash, followed this in 2014, receiving critical acclaim and comparisons to M.I.A. Now, the Bulgarian-born, Berlin-based singer and producer is back!

“Lights Camera Action” is lead track off her upcoming EP, Trust, starring sparkling pop with  an element of Unknown Mortal Orchestra quirk. Drawing on the heartless and cinematic glitz and glam of LA, she’s the director of her own life, casting for “the one” in the life game show. She says: "I realised that it's so much about the quick moment of presentation these days, that even love sometimes can feel like casting for a movie."

The track is super catchy, showing DENA's effortless chic. The darker, satirical undertones don't stop here; they're reflected in the whole EP, demonstrating what DENA knows best. What started as a bunch of Garageband demos, she wrote and co-produced the EP, which is being released under record label, Normal Surround. The whole EP was produced, recorded and mixed in both New York and Berlin so expect a true blend of American glam and Berlin cool.
