Video: Esmé Patterson releases self-directed “We Were Wild”

Esme PattersonTo go alongside the UK release of her third album We Were Wild, Americana singer songwriter Esmé Patterson has shared a new video for the record's title track.

The video for "We Were Wild" is entirely Patterson's work: directed, shot and edited on her iPhone in the beautiful wilds of Alaska. The video perfectly encapsulates the sense of freedom and wonder of the song. It breathes optimism, adventure and youthful innocence – a fitting theme to contrast the intense political events America has recently endured.

The album sees Patterson take a new approach from her debut debut All Princes, I and 2014’s Woman to Woman. The previous technique of quick live recordings were jettisoned in favour of a long period of pre-production. This has led the artist in an exciting new direction, with the technique providing a polished contrast to the album’s theme of seeking what her spirit desires, and indeed perhaps helping the listener on their way too, as explicitly suggested in "Find It".

We Were Wild is out now on Xtra Mile Recording; check out our review of what our Deputy Editor called "one of the happiest albums you'll hear all year" over here.
